Bujagali Hydroelectric Power Plant (Uganda)
The Bujagali Hydroelectric Power Plant, located on the Nile River near Jinja, is one of Uganda’s most critical energy facilities, providing up to 250MW of power to the national grid. As part of a scheduled maintenance and performance upgrade initiative, SIROCCOI (U) Ltd was contracted to execute multiple mechanical and surface protection services within key operational zones of the plant.
Our goal was to extend the service life of critical infrastructure, improve efficiency, and ensure environmental and safety compliance, executed without disrupting ongoing power generation.
Scope of Work
This multi-disciplinary project involved high-precision engineering, coating, and structural services, including:
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge 1: Confined and Hazard-Prone Work Zones.
Penstock interiors and drainage systems presented limited space and moisture exposure. Our team used specialized rope access and confined space entry protocols to work safely and effectively.
Challenge 2: Coordination Around Live Power Operations
The plant remained partially operational throughout the project. SIROCCOI planned and executed work in phased shifts with close coordination to avoid disruptions and meet strict scheduling requirements.
Challenge 3: High Environmental and Safety Standards.
Given the plant’s proximity to water sources and ecological zones, we employed environmentally safe blasting techniques, contained coating methods, and strict waste management practices.
